Winter and early spring tides do cover the centre causeway. Other than that it's about a 15 minute walk from the mainland side to the island then you can spend an hour or two wandering. For the record it's a Tombolo not a Tombola. If you want a Tombola you'll need to sign up to the Sun Bingo.
Q:
Hi there, can you tell me how long to allow for the walk from the car park to St Ninian's Isle? Thanks in advance.
A:
The car park is down a track right next to the beach, it's probably a 15 minute amble across the beach to get to the Isle, look out for seals and great for beachcombing too...
Q:
Can you get there by public transport (don't min walking a bit!)
A:
It doesn't look like it would be easy, the nearest place to look for in the Shetland bus timetables is Bigton : /bus/documents/South_Mainland_Timetable.pdf
