July 11 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N) reached a settlement with a Canadian man whose family died in the March 2019 crash of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX, the man's lawyer said on Friday.

Boeing reached a settlement Friday with a Canadian man whose wife and three children were killed in a deadly 2019 crash in Ethiopia, averting the first trial connected to a devastating event that led to a worldwide grounding of 737 Max jets.

The US Justice Department urged a judge in Texas to accept a proposed settlement agreement reached with Boeing Co. that would allow the planemaker to avoid a criminal charge in a longstanding case over two fatal crashes of its 737 Max jets.
