Police reported that, at around 11:35 p.m. on August 20, Hinds died riding a Harley Davidson. The driver of a BMW SUV neglected to yield making a turn at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard and collided with the motorcycle.

Mastodon remembered Brent Hinds in their first concert since his death. During their performance at the Alaska State Fair on Friday, Aug. 22, drummer Brann Dailor addressed the audience and reflected on their former bandmate, who died in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday, Aug. 20. He was 55.

"We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief," Hinds' former bandmates wrote in an emotional tribute to the late heavy metal rocker.
