The Orange County lawmaker, who also condoned Texas’s gerrymandering effort, urged lawmakers to support legislation introduced by Rep. Kevin Kiley, of Northern California, to ban mid-decade redistricting in every state, saying that would be more constructive than California Democrats’ current efforts.
The effort is aimed at redrawing the state’s congressional districts after Texas’ GOP-led House advanced its controversial new electoral map a day earlier.
Californians are now set to return to the polls this year, after Democrats in the Legislature set a special election on new Congressional maps.
