Pakistani authorities are defending their response to flash floods that killed more than 200 people in a single northwestern district this week.

Rescuers were racing against time to find survivors after flash floods killed at least 337 people in Pakistan 's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The northwestern province was struck by cloudbursts and torrential monsoon downpours on Friday, triggering flash floods and landslides in the mountainous Buner district.

Over 350 people have died in a 72 hour period in Pakistan due to monsoon flooding, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority reported, bringing the total number of people killed to over 650 since June 26.
