The U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Scott Turner, a former NFL player and past Texas state representative, as secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

President Trump’s pick to lead HUD cleared the confirmation process in a vote of 55-44 that was almost entirely along party lines.

The former NFL player served in the first Trump administration, promoting investment in distressed neighborhoods. Turner has said HUD is "failing at its most basic mission."
