The Flyers couldn’t wait to end the John Tortorella era. Philadelphia fired its head coach on Thursday morning, despite there only being nine games left in the regular season. The Flyers are currently 28-36-9 and in last place in the Metro Division.

The writing was on the wall when John Tortorella took the blame for the latest Flyers blowout loss Tuesday, a 7-2 thrashing at the hands of the Maple Leafs.

The Philadelphia Flyers reached the final straw with head coach John Tortorella. The long-time NHL coach was fired Thursday after saying he was " not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season." The team confirmed the news, though made no mention of Tortorella's comments in the press release.
