The New York Mets are reportedly squeezing a homegrown star this offseason and that might cause concern for their $765 million superstar.

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that outfielder Jesse Winker and the Mets have agreed to a one-year contract, perhaps decreasing the chance first baseman Pete Alonso

Jesse Winker, who hit a combined .253 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs for the Mets and the Nationals in 2024, has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Mets.

With spring training a month away, reports indicate the New York Mets want slugging first baseman Pete Alonso to agree to a new contract or they will move on.

The Mets and Pete Alonso appear to be deadlocked in contract negotiations. There has been zero movement on either side since former Mets general manager Jim Duquette reported that Alonso’s camp reached out to the Mets with an offer to re-sign him last Friday.

Pete Alonso is a fan favorite in New York and one of the best Mets of the century. But his run in Queens is likely over. SNY’s Andy Martino reported on Friday that the team expects Alonso to walk, as the two sides could not to come to terms on a new deal.
