AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Republicans were unable again Monday to approve new congressional districts to meet President Donald Trump’s demands as California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Democrats urged Republicans to stand down and avoid a partisan brawl spanning multiple statehouses.

Hundreds of people rallied in Oakland on Saturday afternoon as part of a nationwide day of action denouncing efforts to redraw congressional districts in Texas.

A comment by Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz is the latest barb in an escalating of war of words over the redrawing of congressional maps.
