Emergency crews are cleaning up after a storm bearing record-breaking winds left at least one person dead and more than a million without power across the island of Ireland and Scotland.

Strong winds of up to 80mph (129km/h) are expected in parts of Yorkshire on Friday, as Storm Éowyn brings disruption to the region. An amber weather warning issued by the Met Office covers large parts of the county,

Storm Éowyn is bringing destructive winds to northwestern parts of the UK as it moves in, Red Weather Warnings are in force for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland.

The storm brought 100 mile-per-hour winds to the island and also battered Scotland and northern England. Britain’s weather office issued a red warning, its highest level of alert.

Rail services are being cut as Storm Éowyn heads into north-west England. In Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside, passengers are being warned against travelling on the transport networks.
