Europe is facing a record-breaking heatwave with unprecedented temperatures sweeping across multiple countries. Paris has closed the top level of the Eiffel Tower due to metal expansion, while Switzerland shut down a nuclear reactor as rivers overheated.

The Eiffel Tower closed early on Tuesday and will remain closed on Wednesday as a sweltering heat wave grips parts of Europe.

The heat wave that has blanketed much of Europe is expected to linger over the continent this week, driving up temperatures and offering little reprieve.
