Former East 17 singer Brian Harvey was recovering from surgery last night after being attacked outside a nightclub. He was struck on the head with what may have been an axe, knife or machete.

Made up of Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy, and Terry Coldwell, East 17 were formed in Walthamstow in 1991, and went on to achieve 11 UK top 10 singles and four UK top 10 albums.
