Columbia University’s interim president resigned from her position at the embattled Ivy League Friday night, just days after she told the Trump administration she would implement a mask ban — while privately promising faculty she would not.

The resignation comes after Columbia caved to demands from Trump, who claims the school failed to fight antisemitism.

The campus diversity regime, at the Ivy League school and elsewhere, won’t go down without a fight.

The former television journalist and co-chair of the university’s board of trustees takes the helm at a time of significant peril for the institution.

In an email to students and faculty, Interim President Katrina Armstrong said she would return to her role as the chief executive officer of the Columbia Medical Center, where she will also lead health sciences and medicine faculty and be dean of the medical school.

Armstrong was announced as the interim president in August 2024. Katrina Armstrong will be stepping down "effective immediately" as Columbia University's interim president, the school said on Friday.
