BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Tens of thousands of protesters led by university students held a noisy rally Friday outside Serbia’s state television headquarters in Belgrade to protest what they called the broadcaster's pro-government bias. The rally came a day after one student was seriously injured when a driver rammed his car into a protesting crowd.

By Tatyana Kekic in Belgrade A car rammed into a group of student protesters in Belgrade on January 16, seriously injuring a female student. The injured student was part of a group of demonstrators protesting against the government and showing solidarity with victims of the November 1 tragedy in Novi Sad.

The driver fled the scene in downtown Belgrade after the young woman was thrown onto his car roof and then to the ground with bleeding head injuries. N1 television said she was seriously wounded and was taken to a hospital in a conscious state.

A driver rammed his car into a crowd in Belgrade and seriously injured a young woman on Thursday. It happened during daily student-led protests and traffic blockades that have been held throughout Serbia following the collapse in November of a concrete canopy in the country’s north that killed 15 people.

The uprising of tens of thousands of young Serbs outraged at corruption and civil liberties violations is a growing challenge to Aleksandar Vučić's government.
