The New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates have had at least cursory discussions about outfielder/infielder Oneil Cruz, the New York Post's Jon Heyman reports. However, the ask for Cruz is of course high, according to Heyman.
The New York Yankees need a third baseman at the trade deadline, and Eugenio Suárez figures to be most teams' top target at the deadline.
It's clear as day that the Yankees, who are getting by with a combination of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas, could become a much better team with Suárez. Not only does the Arizona Diamondbacks slugger have 36 home runs, one off the National League lead, but he's eighth in all of baseball with a .918 OPS.
