By Tim Hepher, Paul Sandle, Joe Brock and Giulia Segreti PARIS (Reuters) - Airbus secured more aircraft orders on Wednesday, raising its total to $21 billion at this week’s subdued Paris Air Show, while rival Boeing opted not to announce new sales following last week’s Air India 787 crash.

The Air India crash is the latest in a series of setbacks that have defined much of the past decade for Boeing. These have led to a cascading effect on Boeing’s operations and finances, while its rival Airbus barely made any news and stayed profitable.

Airbus SE said the fatal accident on Thursday in India involving a Boeing Co. airliner should spur the industry as a whole to advance its safety culture, dismissing the notion that the crash could bring a competitive edge to one planemaker over the other in the global duopoly.
