More than a year after the Arizona Coyotes folded, sending players and managment to Salt Lake City, Utah's NHL team has a new name.

More than 10,000 years ago, herds of mammoth claimed Utah as their home and, ever since, the mammoth has embodied strength, momentum, and an earth-shaking presence – qualities that are brought to life by the passion of Utah’s hockey fans and that mirror the franchise’s bold emergence into the NHL.

At long last, Utah’s NHL team has a name. Smith Entertainment Group revealed the new name and permanent identity of the franchise as the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday. The name, chosen after fans made 850,000 votes over 13 months, is inspired by the extinct, elephant-like animal that roamed Utah more than 10,00 years ago.
