The judge handling the trial of five hockey players accused of sexual assault has dismissed the jury after a complaint that defense attorneys were laughing at some of the jurors.

In a stunning move, the jury hearing the case against five former world junior hockey players charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a London, Ont., hotel room in 2018 was discharged Friday and the case is now proceeding with just a judge.

The Hockey Canada sexual assault trial faced a setback. The jury got dismissed due to complaints. Jurors felt mocked by defence lawyers. The lawyers denied the allegations. This is the second disruption in the case.
