Valenzuela died last month at the age of 63 and TMZ obtained his death certificate on Tuesday, which also noted decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis cirrhosis as underlying causes for the pitcher’s death.

The cause of death has been released for Los Angeles Dodgers great Fernando Valenzuela. TMZ was the first to report that the all-star pitcher died of septic shock. The gossip site obtained Valenzuela’s death certificate.

In addition to his cause of death, the medical examiner suspects the Cy Young award winner ​may have suffered from a rare brain disease.
