In the complaint, a social activist has accused Virat Kohli of promoting what he described as ‘gambling through IPL’, alleging it incited the massive crowd that led to the tragedy. The activist further alleged that the IPL is ‘not a sport but a gambling that has contaminated the game of cricket.

The complaint was lodged by HM Venkatesh, a resident of Karnataka's Shivamogga district, at Bengaluru's Cubbon Park police station, which is near to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
