Updated: May 17, 2024 / 11:31 PM EDT KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) — Wawa has now reached a milestone as they announced their first store in the state of North Carolina on Thursday.

On May 16, North Carolina's first Wawa store opened in Kill Devil Hills. The location is the first of nine stores slated to open in the state before the end of summer, and 10 by the end of the year.

Wawa will open its first-ever prototype travel center store in Hope Mills, North Carolina at the end of August.

While still far smaller than a Buc-ee's, the prototype store is big for a Wawa, on an interstate, and equipped to serve truckers.
