Year 6 is an educational year group in schools in many countries including the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. It is usually the sixth year of compulsory education and incorporates students aged between ten and eleven.

In their ‘classroom’ each lesson is an hour-long. They’re delivered by a practising teacher, with a pre-recorded video as well as quizzes, worksheets and creative activities. A site developed by the BBC to provide new lessons every weekday for pupils in year 1 to year 10.

In year 6, your child will learn to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 8 digits, with a strong understanding of the place value of each digit. They’ll also look at rounding numbers with accuracy and using negative numbers in context.

In English primary schools, Year 6 is the final year of primary (junior) school. For areas of the country which have the middle school system, Year 6 is one of the middle years. Middle schools cover either Years 5 to 8 or Years 4 to 7.
